In the Velykydymyr community, a temporary educational space is operating instead of the lyceum destroyed by the Russians

A temporary educational space in the village of Bohdanivka, Velykydymyrskyi community, Kyiv region, allows schoolchildren to study after Russian troops destroyed the local lyceum and kindergarten in March 2022.
From March 8 to 15, the enemy occupied 18 of the 23 settlements of the community. Over the three weeks of occupation, more than a hundred local residents were killed, 2,450 private houses and infrastructure facilities, schools, and kindergartens were destroyed. At that time, the Bohdanivskyi lyceum completely burned down.
The construction of a temporary educational space in the village of Bohdanivka began on June 4, 2024. And on July 24, the institution was opened. The event was attended by US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, USAID Mission Director to Ukraine Julie A. Konen, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi, IREX Ukraine Director Mehri Druckman, and community representatives.
Oksen Lisovyi emphasized the importance of opening a new temporary educational space: «When I saw the destruction in Bohdanivka, I understood that the design, financing, construction, commissioning of a new school — is such a long time that it will take a generation to grow up. But the solution with the temporary educational space allowed us to quickly close the urgent need of the Velykydymyr community.
The building of the space is six classrooms, which are equipped with comfortable furniture, creating comfortable conditions for learning, and tablets and interactive multimedia panels allow you to use the latest educational technologies during the educational process and after-school leisure.
This space not only provides for formal education, but also various extracurricular activities. Students can attend clubs and master classes, media literacy trainings, mine safety courses, career consultations, etc.
The project is already fully funded, all work has been completed. The cost of construction was almost 960,000 UAH. There are no risks of duplication of project funding from different sources. The project was financed by the USAID Program "Dream and Act" in partnership with IREX, the international charitable foundation savED and the NGO «GoGlobal». No funds were attracted from other sources. The project was selected through a competitive procedure.
There were no public discussions at the project preparation stage. Lists of objects that needed restoration were formed based on submissions from local governments. The facility was given such priority that schoolchildren of the Bogdanivskyi starostat had access to education.
We will inform you later whether attention was paid to barrier-free and energy efficiency during construction.
